My Diary
A Faded Circle on the Window Ledge
Dear Delyara, I lifted an old, empty terracotta pot off the kitchen windowsill this afternoon, and it left a perfect, dark ring stained deep into the white paint beneath. No matter how hard I scrubbed it with a rough sponge and soap, the wood refused to let go of the mark; the damp soil had slowly seeped into the grain over months of quiet neglect. It’s a permanent map of where a plant used to live before I forgot to water it. The kitchen feels slightly different now, carrying a visible scar of my own distraction. We leave these quiet, accidental proofs of our failures all over our rooms, and we just have to learn to live with the view.
