A friend offered help without turning me into a project
Dear Delyara, I said I’d had a rough week, and instead of flooding me with questions, solutions, concern, and accidental pressure, she said, “Do you want dinner dropped off, a phone call, or just some quiet?” Three options. No performance required. No emotional homework attached. I chose quiet and dinner. She left it at the door with one text that said, “No need to answer.” That is such an intelligent kindness. It doesn’t only help. It preserves dignity while helping. I think the best support in adulthood often looks exactly like that: calibrated, simple, and free from theatre.
