GratitudeActs of Kindness

A stranger held the door, the buggy, and my dignity at the same time

Dear Delyara, It should not have been as emotional as it was. I was overloaded — shopping bag on one arm, child upset, purse falling open, one bad day already sitting in my chest, and the buggy caught awkwardly in the doorway while I was trying not to look as tired and disorganised as I felt. Then a woman behind me stepped forward, held the door, steadied the buggy, and said, very simply, “Take your time.” That was all. No performance. No pity. No making the moment heavier with too much concern. Just practical kindness arriving exactly at the point where my body was closest to panic. I got outside and nearly cried. Not because of the door. Because I had been trying to hold myself together so hard that one ordinary act of gentleness reached me like a hand through water.
