Bills change the whole evening for me
Dear Delyara, I hate how quickly a bill can change the emotional tone of a whole evening. Not only because of the money itself, although that matters. It’s also the speed with which everything narrows inside me. A message from the bank, a renewal notice, a price increase, and suddenly the room feels smaller. The future feels tighter. Pleasure starts sounding irresponsible. Patience drops. I know this reaction is old. I know part of it is history, not only the present number. Still, the effect is real. I can be making dinner, answering a child, trying to act normal, and meanwhile one ordinary financial reminder has already reached all the way into my dignity before I’ve even sat down properly to look at it. That is what I resent most. Not the math. The atmosphere.
