The SilenceTrauma

Certain atmospheres still make my body leave early

Dear Delyara, A room can look ordinary and still make my body act as if it isn’t. That’s one of the most isolating parts of trauma for me. The body changes before the facts do. I get smaller, quieter, more careful, more aware of exits, tone, movement, danger, emotional weather. All of this can happen while everyone else still seems relaxed enough to call the moment normal. I wish I could trust “ordinary” more easily. But some atmospheres still pull older survival forward too quickly. That leaves me tired in ways that don’t translate well later.
