Debt has changed how hopeful the future feels

Dear Delyara, Not because I have no future. Because debt changes the emotional shape of the future. It narrows things before they happen. Makes room feel smaller. Makes mistakes feel more dangerous. Makes desire feel less innocent. It follows me into planning and sits down before I do. It turns possibility into calculation so quickly that hope rarely gets to enter a room alone anymore. I don’t think people understand how much debt affects the imagination. That is one of the parts I most want back.
