Family still makes me feel observed by old versions of myself

Dear Delyara, I can walk into a family space as the person I am now and still feel the older versions of me looking over my shoulder — the careful one, the smaller one, the one who knew what not to say, the one who learned to survive by managing the atmosphere before she fully entered it. History turns the room into more than the room. That’s why I still leave tired in ways that don’t make sense to people who only heard the conversation and not the layers under it.
