He Asked the Second Question
Dear Delyara, The first one was easy. “How was your day?” I gave the normal answer. The second one was the one that mattered. “No, really.” That second question almost undid me. Because it meant he had heard the first answer and known it wasn’t the whole truth. It meant I did not have to build the bridge entirely alone. It meant someone was willing to stay in the doorway of my inner life for one second longer instead of accepting the easy version and moving on. That kind of love is not loud. It is precise. And I needed it badly.
