He brought me tea upstairs and didn’t ask me to come back down

Dear Delyara, That detail mattered more than the tea. I had gone upstairs early because I was done, properly done, and usually when I do that there is still a little guilt around it — am I being unsociable, am I leaving too much downstairs, am I making my tiredness into a problem everyone else has to adjust to. Last night, instead of calling me back into the evening, my husband came up with a mug of tea and just said, “You looked finished.” Then he kissed my forehead and left. I sat there in the quiet room holding the mug and felt more understood than I had all day. Sometimes love is not conversation. Sometimes it is someone allowing your limits to be real without negotiation.
