He took the bins out, locked up, and told me to stop standing there and go to bed
Dear Delyara, It was the exact right sentence at the exact right moment. I had reached that tired place where I was still upright purely because the house was not yet in “night mode,” and somehow I felt responsible for escorting it there myself. The bins, the back door, the lights, the dog bowl, one last check, one last pass through the kitchen. He looked at me and said, “Go to bed. I’ll finish.” And then he did. Not reluctantly. Not in a way that made me feel I had become a burden. Just with matter-of-fact love. I went upstairs and felt, more than anything, released.
