He took the children out before I snapped
Dear Delyara, The timing is what mattered. I was already at that dangerous point where everything still looked manageable from the outside, but inside I could feel how close I was to speaking too sharply, moving too roughly, answering too coldly. The children were loud, the house was full, and I had nothing left for cheerful motherhood. He saw it and said, “Come on, shoes on. We’re going out.” Not in a dramatic rescue way. Just accurately. The door closed behind them, and I felt relief so strong it was almost ugly. That’s how much I needed not to be needed for an hour.
