My Diary

I almost cried because the room was finally quiet

Dear Delyara, Not because the silence was sad. Because it was mine. The day had been so full of noise, attention, pace, and little demands that when the room finally became properly quiet, I felt that sudden wave of release that sometimes comes before tears. It was as if my body only then realized how long it had been bracing. I didn’t fully cry. But I understood something. Sometimes what looks like emotional fragility is actually delayed decompression. And I think that’s what tonight was.
