I am competent in a life I am not fully sure I chose

Dear Delyara, This thought has been frightening me lately. I am good at the life I currently have. That is part of what makes the doubt so hard to untangle. From the outside, competence can look like certainty. But I am starting to suspect that some of my competence is really just long-term adaptation. I know how to do the work. I know the systems, the pace, the expectations. I know how to function inside this structure. But sometimes I wonder whether functioning has been mistaken for belonging. There are moments where I look at my career and think: Did I choose this, or did I just keep going? That question has more weight in me than I want it to.
