I am frightened that I have already missed my chance
Dear Delyara, This fear follows me into everything now. New course? Too late. Different career? Too risky. Start something of my own? What if it fails publicly? Apply for the job? What if they see straight through me? Move? What if I ruin the only stability I have left? Stay? What if staying is the real failure? The problem is not that I have no ideas. The problem is that every idea now has to walk through years of disappointment, age, money pressure, fatigue, and the private suspicion that maybe the life I once imagined was for braver people than me. I hate that thought. I also recognise it. Fear of failure has become more sophisticated with age. It no longer sounds like panic. It sounds like reason. Prudence. Timing. Responsibility. It dresses itself as maturity and quietly persuades me to remain exactly where I am, even while I’m unhappy there. That’s what scares me most — not failing. Becoming the kind of person who keeps calling fear wisdom until the years are gone.
