The PlotFear of Failure
I am more afraid of failing in public now than I was when I was younger
Dear Delyara, When you’re younger, failing still leaves room for a different story. At this age, failure feels heavier. It feels like evidence. Like confirmation of the worst private thoughts — that I missed my best window, that I am too tired now, too ordinary, too interrupted, too late to try something bigger and survive the humiliation of it going badly. That fear has become so sophisticated it often sounds like wisdom. Like timing. Like realism. Like good judgment. It isn’t all lies. Risk does cost more now. Still, I can feel how much of my “carefulness” is really just fear trying to prevent me from becoming visible inside my own ambition. And what frightens me most is that I may keep calling fear maturity until the years are gone.
