The PlotFear of Failure
I am not afraid of effort — I am afraid of visible disappointment
Dear Delyara, That distinction matters. I can work hard. I already do. I can carry things. I can keep going. What frightens me is not effort itself. It is the possibility of effort becoming public evidence that I wanted more and didn’t become it. Applying and not getting it. Starting and not sustaining it. Choosing visibility and then finding out I am not enough in the places I hoped I might be enough. That fear has become clever with age. It no longer sounds like panic. It sounds like caution, timing, realism, responsibility, protecting the family, not being reckless, waiting until I’m more certain. Some of that is true. But not all of it. A lot of it is still fear trying to keep me hidden from the humiliation of trying.
