The UnknownUncertainty

I am tired of not knowing what my life is becoming

Dear Delyara, I am in my forties, and I wish uncertainty felt more romantic than it does. When people are younger, uncertainty sounds like possibility. When you are older and carrying rent, bills, family obligations, a body that asks more of you, and a heart that has already been disappointed a few times, uncertainty feels much less like freedom and much more like a dark room you are expected to walk through with confidence you do not have. I do not know if this job is sustainable. I do not know if my relationship will deepen or die quietly. I do not know if I should move, retrain, stay put, save harder, give up something, or finally start something. I wake up every day inside a life I am still managing to perform, but I cannot honestly say I trust where it is going. That is frightening in a very adult way. Not dramatic. Not cinematic. Just wearing and constant.
