I Answered the Question Without Apologising First, and That Tiny Moment Changed the Whole Conversation

Dear Delyara, Normally I would have softened before speaking. Sorry, just wondering. Sorry, I need to ask. Sorry, can I say— All those little verbal bows women learn when they have spent too long making themselves easy to receive before they are even fully present. This time I didn’t. I just asked. The earth did not split. The room did not punish me. Nobody accused me of being too much, too direct, too difficult, too visible. That mattered far more than the question itself. Because every unnecessary apology removed is a tiny piece of self-respect returned to the voice. And I want my voice back in more than theory. I want it back in rooms.
