My Diary
I answered too quickly and regretted my tone
Dear Delyara, One child asked a normal question. I gave a tired answer in a tired voice. The whole thing lasted maybe three seconds, and still I carried the guilt of it for the next hour. That is one of the hardest parts of parenting for me. Not the big hard moments. The ordinary little ones where your own depletion leaks out in a tone before you have time to stop it. Children hear everything emotionally. Even when they seem to move on, I don’t. I apologised. They were fine. I was not fine. I wish I had more room between feeling overused and sounding overused. Some days I do. Yesterday I didn’t.
