I applied for the role before confidence arrived,
Dear Delyara, I had been waiting to feel ready. Ready in the body. Ready in the mind. Ready in the voice. Ready in the story I tell myself about who I am and whether I’m still allowed to begin again in visible ways. That feeling never came. What did come was a clean moment of anger after a difficult workday — not wild anger, just enough honesty to see that my hesitation had become too dressed up in mature language. I was no longer protecting myself from recklessness. I was protecting myself from visibility. So I submitted the application. Not bravely in the glamorous sense. My hands still felt cold. I still doubted every sentence. I still wanted to keep the possibility intact and untested. But I pressed send anyway. That is the victory for me now: movement before confidence. Reality before fantasy. Action before self-erasure.
