I Asked The Doctor The Harder Question Instead Of Leaving With Polite Uncertainty

Dear Delyara, I nod. I say thank you. I take the leaflet. I leave. Then I go home and do the emotional labour alone — the Googling, the wondering, the misunderstanding, the fear that I didn’t fully understand but didn’t want to look foolish enough to admit it in the appointment. This time I asked. The harder question. The one that might make me sound anxious, repetitive, needy, not quite composed enough for medical rooms. I asked it anyway. And the answer changed everything. Not because it fixed the situation instantly. Because it gave me clarity I would otherwise have gone home without just to protect myself from the tiny embarrassment of asking twice. That matters. Because I am tired of letting politeness cost me peace.
