My Diary

I ate three spoonfuls of cereal while standing over the sink and called it breakfast

Dear Delyara, That was all there was time for, and even that happened in a hurry. I could hear the school rush building behind me. Shoes. Teeth. Water bottles. One child shouting from the stairs. One missing item already turning into the centre of the morning. So I opened the cereal box, ate enough to keep the dizziness away, and carried on moving. I don’t neglect myself in grand cinematic ways. I do it like this. Tiny, efficient, forgettable ways that fit inside family life so neatly they almost stop looking like neglect at all. Still, the body notices. Mine does.
