My Diary

I ate toast over the sink and told myself it counted as lunch

Dear Delyara, The truth is, I was hungry long before that. But the morning had gone wrong in small expensive ways. A late message, a missing item, one tense call, one rushed errand, one half-finished task becoming three more. By the time I reached the kitchen, I had no emotional dignity left for sitting down properly and giving my own body a real meal. So I ate two pieces of toast over the sink like I was between emergencies. That’s what saddened me. Not the food. The posture of it. The way I keep fitting myself into leftover spaces and then acting surprised that my body feels overlooked by the life I am supposedly living for.
