I bought flowers while also worrying about money, which tells you everything
Dear Delyara, They were not expensive, but they were unnecessary, and that was exactly why I stood there for too long with them in my hand. Part of me kept saying, don’t be silly, there are other things to pay for. Another part of me kept looking at the flowers and thinking, maybe the kitchen deserves one beautiful thing that isn’t practical. I bought them. When I got home and put them in a jar on the table, the whole room softened. Nothing in my actual life changed. The money pressure was still there. The work problem was still there. But the room no longer looked like a place where only labour happened. It looked like someone cared how it felt to live there. I think that is what I was really buying. Not flowers. Permission to let beauty exist in a life that is too often run entirely by necessity.
