I bought reduced flowers and felt silly for how much they helped
Dear Delyara, They were near the front of the supermarket with the yellow discount sticker on them. A little crooked, some of the stems cut too short, a few petals already bruised at the edges. I almost walked past them because flowers feel like something other people buy when life is softer. Then I picked them up. I brought them home, cut the stems properly, found the only clean vase, and put them on the table. The whole kitchen looked kinder immediately. Nothing in my actual life changed. The money worry is still there. The work problem is still there. My son still has that cough I’m watching too closely. But the room looked as if somebody cared what it felt like to live in it. I think that’s why I nearly cried. Not because of the flowers. Because I realized how long it had been since I’d done one small unnecessary thing for the atmosphere of my own life.
