I Bought The Warm Coat Instead Of Enduring Another Winter

Dear Delyara, I had spent too long wearing the old coat because it still technically worked. It closed. It looked fine. It got me through. Meanwhile, I was cold too often, uncomfortable more than I admitted, and arriving home from ordinary days already slightly more irritated and depleted because my body had spent hours under a layer that was not kind enough. This week I bought the warmer coat. And walking home in it, I realised how many small ways I have asked my body to “just manage” because there were louder needs elsewhere. How often I had made practicality a prettier word for self-neglect. The coat was not a luxury. It was an act of self-respect. And I needed that reminder much more than I realised before I put it on.
