My Diary
I Burned With Embarrassment Over Nothing
Dear Delyara, Someone asked me a normal question and for one second I forgot the answer to something I should have remembered easily. School related, I think. A date, a detail, a form. Nothing important enough to justify what happened next inside me. But I felt it anyway. That hot flash of shame. That immediate sense of being slightly inadequate, slightly exposed, slightly less competent than I had been trying so hard to appear. I recovered quickly. The conversation moved on. Inside, I didn’t move on quite as fast. That’s the problem with tiredness and old sensitivity. Small slips can still feel like verdicts if they land in the wrong place.
