I called the school back straight away

Dear Delyara, Usually if I miss a school call, I let fear move in first. What happened, who’s hurt, what did I forget, what now. By the time I actually call back, I’ve already lived through three private emergencies and my body is acting as if something terrible has definitely happened. This time I rang back immediately. Everything was fine. Of course. But the victory was not in the outcome. It was in refusing the old pattern where fear gets a head start and reality has to catch up later. That head start costs me too much. Yesterday, I didn’t give it one.
