I can feel one bill sitting inside me all evening

Dear Delyara, Even when it’s paid. Even when it’s manageable. Even when nobody else in the house notices a change. A bill can still sit in me like weather. It changes how I hear questions, how much patience I have for nonsense, how quickly I say no to myself, how guilty I feel about spending anything unnecessary, and how safe I feel inside plans that looked fine two hours earlier. That is the part I find hardest to explain to people who think financial stress is purely logistical. It isn’t. It is atmospheric. It gets into the home through me before anyone has even seen the paperwork.
