I can spend a whole day with people and still feel privately untouched
Dear Delyara, That is the kind of loneliness I find hardest to explain because it sounds unreasonable from the outside. I had meetings. I had phone calls. I had the school gate chat. I spoke to the cashier, the neighbour, my husband, both children, and one of my oldest friends. On paper, that is plenty of human contact. And still, by bedtime, I felt like no one had actually reached the interior part of me where company becomes nourishment. I think there is a real difference between being interacted with and being emotionally met. One fills the hours. The other changes the shape of them. A busy day can still be emotionally empty if every exchange happens at the surface level where functionality lives but deeper recognition doesn’t. That is the loneliness I’m naming tonight. The kind hidden under contact.
