My Diary

I changed my top because the first one felt too much like the day

Dear Delyara, It smelled faintly of outside air and public life. Nothing dramatic. Just enough that when I got home, I wanted it off immediately. Not because it was dirty. Because it still felt full of the day — conversations, movement, effort, exposure, being seen, being reachable, being “on.” I put on an older, softer top and felt my shoulders drop. That tiny change did more than I expected. Sometimes the body does not need a speech. It needs a fabric that means the performance is over. There is something almost sacred in changing into clothes that do not belong to the world outside. Tonight, I needed that crossing more than I realized.
