My Diary

I changed the bedsheets and felt calmer than I had felt in days

Dear Delyara, The room looked softer afterward. Clean pillowcases. Straight corners. The duvet shaken out and lying flat like it belonged to a life less crowded than mine. I know it sounds ridiculous that fresh sheets could move me this much, but the truth is that when your days feel emotionally and practically overused, small order can feel more like safety than tidiness. I stood there looking at the bed and realised how much of my nervous system now responds to gentleness in domestic forms. A tidy room. A clean towel. A hot drink without interruption. A light switched off. A door closed. Sometimes I think I don’t need luxury. I need less hostility in the ordinary texture of the day.
