I Changed the Water Bottle Lid and Felt Weirdly Useful in a Way That Made Me Sad

Dear Delyara, It had cracked and started leaking in school bags for two days, which meant wet papers, damp fruit, and one child annoyed enough to act as if the injustice had been personal. Today I replaced the lid. That solved the problem. And while snapping the new top into place, I had this strange wave of sadness I can’t explain properly except by saying that I am tired of how often my usefulness comes through these tiny invisible fixes. New lid. Crisis prevented. Life moves on. No one will remember this by tomorrow. But I will remember the quiet accumulation of being the person who notices, replaces, anticipates, carries, and solves without ever quite feeling that those acts add up to a life anyone could describe as mine. Still, I changed the lid. It mattered. That’s the ache.
