I Checked My Phone Wanting Something I Couldn’t Name

Dear Delyara, I picked it up, unlocked it, put it down, picked it up again. No one had promised to message. Nothing urgent was due. Still, I kept looking. I think what I wanted was not information. It was interruption. Tenderness. Proof that I existed in somebody else’s mind without having to ask for that directly. Of course the phone could not really give me that. Not in the way I needed. Still, I kept checking like a lonely person standing at a window pretending not to wait.
