My Diary

I checked the fridge and felt judged by three brown bananas

Dear Delyara, It is ridiculous how much emotion can gather around fruit. They were too ripe, obviously. And instead of simply thinking, I’ll use them tomorrow, I immediately had that familiar internal slide into self-accusation. You should have noticed sooner. You should have done something with them. You keep letting small practical things sit until they become tiny indictments of your competence. I know that’s irrational. I still live with it. By bedtime I was actually annoyed every time I saw them. Tomorrow I’ll probably make banana bread and all will be forgiven. Tonight they looked like criticism in fruit form.
