I Chose Work That Leaves Me More Whole

Dear Delyara, I am no longer impressed by jobs that consume the person doing them completely. That is a lesson I learned late, but I’m still grateful for it. My career victory lately has not been status. It has been choosing work that leaves something of me intact by the end of the day. Enough softness, enough curiosity, enough life left over that I can still belong to myself outside the job. That kind of success does not always photograph well. It still feels real.
