My Diary
I Closed My Eyes Before Sleep and Saw the Whole Day Still Standing There
Dear Delyara, That’s what happens now. The body lies down. The day does not. One child’s face. One unfinished conversation. The bill. The work email. The thing I forgot. The thing I remembered too late. The husband I still haven’t spoken honestly enough with. The body I’m not caring for as well as I should. The child I’m worried about. The version of tomorrow that is already approaching too quickly. I lay there with my eyes shut and could still see everything standing around me, as if the day had followed me into the dark and had no intention of leaving just because the lights were off. That is my tiredness. Not simply lack of sleep. The inability of life to end where the clock says it does.
