I corrected the lie while I still had the chance
Dear Delyara, It would have been easier to leave it. Someone had said something in a meeting that created the wrong impression about my work, and I could feel the usual instinct rise in me — stay quiet, don’t make this awkward, explain later if needed, maybe it won’t matter. But I knew if I let it sit there, it would harden into the story. So I corrected it. Calmly. Clearly. Before the meeting moved on. My heart was beating hard enough to make my hands feel strange, but I still did it. And afterward, under the nerves, there was relief. Not triumph. Relief. Because every time I let a false impression stand to protect the room, I pay for it later in self-respect. This time I didn’t.
