I Corrected the Pronunciation of My Name Again
Dear Delyara, No laugh this time. No “It’s okay.” No making it easy for everybody else to keep getting it wrong because I didn’t want to make a moment awkward. I corrected it. Plainly. Again. It was such a small thing. And still, my body felt it. Because self-esteem is not always dramatic. Sometimes it is simply refusing to help the world mis-handle you in the small familiar ways that have become socially convenient. My name is one of those ways. So often it is easier to let it go than to ask to be seen accurately. This time I asked. And I’m glad I did. Even if only I know how much that mattered.
