I corrected the room while the mistake was still in the air instead of carrying it home again
Dear Delyara, Usually, when something inaccurate or unfair happens at work, I let the moment move on. I tell myself I’ll address it later, more calmly, more privately, more professionally. Then later usually means I carry the whole thing home in my body, replay it while cooking dinner, rewrite my own silence in the car, and feel angry with myself for choosing social smoothness over self-respect again. This time I interrupted it in the room. My voice wasn’t perfect. My heart was racing. I still did it. I corrected the misunderstanding clearly and without apologising for existing first. The room adjusted. The conversation moved on. And the strangest part was how much relief came afterward — not because I won, but because I didn’t abandon myself publicly for the sake of everyone else’s comfort. That is a very real kind of victory for me now. The kind no one claps for. The kind that changes who I am becoming.
