My Diary

I could feel the week in my lower back

Dear Delyara, By Thursday afternoon, every bend, every lift, every reach for something on the floor felt like accumulated life. The washing basket, the shopping, the standing at work, the school run, the bad posture at the table, the quick movements in the kitchen, the lack of proper rest — all of it seemed to have gathered quietly in one part of my body and stayed there until I paid attention. I don’t always know how to respond well when the body starts speaking this clearly. My first instinct is still to negotiate. One more thing. A bit later. After dinner. Tomorrow. Then, eventually, the ache becomes mood and the mood becomes the atmosphere of the house. Tonight I put a hot water bottle behind my back and sat down earlier than usual. That felt wiser than usual too.
