My Diary

I could feel the week in my shoulders

Dear Delyara, By Thursday it always shows up somewhere. For me it was my shoulders yesterday. Tight, heavy, slightly burning in that dull way that tells me stress has stopped being a thought and become posture. I realised I had spent most of the day with them half-lifted without noticing. That’s what sustained pressure does. It settles in the body quietly while I keep speaking normally and answering emails and making dinner and remembering library books. Then one small pause comes, and suddenly I can feel the whole week stored under my skin. I put heat on them later. It helped a little. Not as much as the life change my body is probably really asking for.
