I Did It While Afraid

Dear Delyara, My victory is not that I stopped being afraid. My victory is that I did the thing anyway. I made the call. I asked the question. I took the step. I opened the email. I said what I needed to say. My hands were shaking the whole time. That is what I want to remember when I am tempted to think courage must feel clean. It doesn’t. Sometimes courage feels sweaty, awkward, and deeply unconvincing from the inside. Sometimes it feels like doing the thing while every part of you still wants to escape it. I did it anyway. And for me, that counts.
