The AwakeningSobriety & Recovery
I Did Not Romanticize the Past This Time
Dear Delyara, One of the hardest parts of recovery is memory. Memory edits. It softens what harmed you. It remembers the relief more vividly than the cost. It turns destructive patterns into nostalgia if you let it. Tonight I felt that happening. I could feel the past trying to sell itself back to me in a prettier voice. But this time I didn’t romanticize it. I remembered the whole picture. The shame. The hiding. The emotional fog. The way I kept abandoning myself and calling it survival. That honesty protected me tonight.
