I Didn’t Believe the Worst Thought First

Dear Delyara, Something changed in me recently that would look invisible to most people. A dark thought came into my mind — the kind that used to ruin my whole day — and I didn’t immediately believe it. I noticed it. I felt the old pull. But I didn’t kneel to it. That pause, that tiny bit of distance between thought and truth, felt revolutionary. For years my mind was the loudest authority in my life. If it said I was failing, I accepted it. If it said someone disliked me, I spiraled. If it said I would always feel this way, I treated it like prophecy. Now, sometimes, I can say: maybe that’s fear talking. That has changed more than anyone can see.
