My Diary

I didn’t fix the pile on the chair and the world stayed standing

Dear Delyara, There is a chair in my room that has quietly turned into a second wardrobe, a laundry stop, and an emotional witness all at once. Last night I looked at the pile on it and felt the familiar urge to sort, fold, hang, restore order, prove I am still the kind of woman who leaves a room behind her in a respectable state. Then I didn’t. I brushed my teeth, turned off the lamp, and left the pile exactly as it was. The chair was still there this morning. The world had not ended. No one I love was harmed by one chair being imperfect overnight. Sometimes the smallest rebellion is against the internal rule that says nothing messy may exist near you without becoming a judgment on your character. Last night I refused that rule. A little.
