I Didn’t Spiral the Same Way

Dear Delyara, Something happened this week that used to ruin me for days. A small misunderstanding. A shift in tone. The kind of moment that would once have sent me straight into analysis, shame, overthinking, and emotional self-punishment. Usually I would replay it from every possible angle until it became bigger than the actual event. This time, I still felt it. But I didn’t spiral the same way. I noticed the pull. I felt the old instinct to over-interpret and over-blame myself. But I also felt something else: distance. Not indifference. Not numbness. Just a little space between the event and the version of me who used to collapse under it. That space felt hard-earned. I think people imagine healing as becoming unbothered. For me, it has looked more like becoming less consumed.
