I Didn’t Turn One Bad Moment Into My Whole Identity
Dear Delyara, Today something small went wrong, and for once I didn’t use it as evidence that I’m failing at life. That may sound tiny to someone else. To me, it felt enormous. I’ve spent years living with a mind that escalates quickly. One awkward moment becomes proof I’m unlikeable. One mistake becomes proof I’m behind. One hard day becomes evidence that I’m broken in some permanent way. But today, I felt the old pattern begin and didn’t fully go with it. I thought, “That was a bad moment.” Not, “I am a bad person.” Not, “This always happens.” Not, “I’ll never get better.” Just a bad moment. I don’t think people realize how much peace lives inside that kind of difference.
