I documented the bullying, spoke clearly, and stopped carrying the whole thing home in my body
Dear Delyara, For too long, I tried to survive by being reasonable. I told myself I needed more proof, more certainty, a bigger incident, clearer language, something dramatic enough to justify speaking. Until then, I kept absorbing. The exclusion, the tone, the small humiliations that were just subtle enough to make self-doubt part of the abuse itself. I took all of it home in my nervous system and kept calling my silence professionalism. Then I stopped. I wrote everything down. Dates. Patterns. What was said. Who was there. How it was affecting my ability to work and think and remain emotionally intact by the time I reached my family. Then I took it to the right person. My voice shook. I still spoke clearly. That changed something in me before it changed anything around me. I stopped partnering with my own diminishing. I stopped making respectability the reason I stayed unprotected. That is a real victory. A costly one. A necessary one.
