The BondFriendship

I don’t know when concern turned into performance in some friendships

Dear Delyara, There are friendships where check-ins feel warm, and there are friendships where they’ve started to feel procedural. Correct words said on schedule, suitable levels of interest, enough kindness to maintain the structure, but not the deeper presence that used to make the connection feel alive. That’s a difficult loss to name because nothing is obviously broken. The friendship still technically exists. Messages still happen. The shape is still there. But some of the soul has gone. And I can feel myself tiring inside the effort of pretending that structure alone is enough. I miss the versions of friendship where concern didn’t feel so carefully formatted.
